Dear friends and family of TM:

TM07 will happen!

Thanks to the commitments of the following
coworkers: Pastor and Mrs. Jonathan Chen of
Cerritos, Pastor David Tsai of LA, Pastor Levi
Huang of Alhambra, Pastor Daniel Wu of GA, Sam
Shui of EV, Enffie Chen of EV, and your new TM
coordinator Aileen Hong of Alhambra, TM will
continue.

Which means that this is the last email from
me as your old coordinator.

Over the last few years, I have learned so
much through the challenges that I have faced
planning TM.  It has strengthened my faith,
built my character and expanded my patience.
And I know because of TM and the teachings of
JC, I will always put loving the people first
before anything else.

I thank the Lord for all the lessons and also
your support over the last few years.  Because
if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have been able
to make TM happen and I wouldn't have been able
to make it through the challenges.

Something to remember!!! In order for TM07 to
happen, it will need supporters, people to help
out with training, night markets and retreat
workshops. In addition, the your new coordinator
Aileen will also need your support and encouragement
as I did. So please get out your calendars and
pencil in TM07 dates that are to come with Aileen's
email.

So, I can't thank the Lord enough for all of you
that have personally enlighted my life. I pray that
the Lord continue to guide your paths and keep you
company for the rest of your life.

You guys freakin ROCK!!!!

God bless!

------Extra Money to bring -----------------------------------------
The church will provide 3 meals and lodging, but anything else you want, you'll

* Gifts for your kids
* Post Mission transportation and lodging
* Post Mission Shopping and souvenirs

Exchanging money (its better to exchange in Taiwan, because the exchange rate is more favorable there)
ps. some of the churches might give you extra allowance, you may use it to buy gifts for students, give it back to the church as an offering, or contribute it to TM general funds!!!

*A list of important contact numbers (u.s. and taiwan) in case of emergency
*****************************************************************************
******************Just in case you need an Internatinal Driver's License******
Can be obtained through www.AAA.com, you'll need
* A completed IDP application. Pick one up at your AAA office or download and print one.
* 8 Two original passport-size photos with your signature on the back.
* A $10 application fee (no cash if applying by mail).
* A current driver's license from your home state or U.S. territory.
-------------------------------------------------------------
----------------PREPAID CELL PHONE-----------------------------------
If you have a tri band cellphone from TMOBILE, CINGULAR, or AT&T, you can use it overseas, first call 611 on your cellphone, ask the customer service to unlock your phone because you are traveling to Asia, (AT&T won't do it for you, but you can take it to a So Cal Asian Store to have it done!) then, when you get to Asia, you can purchase a phone card for your cell phone and use it while you are there. Usually your number will look somewhat like 0912-345-678, 09 prefix with 8 numbers to follow. If my mom wants to call me on my cell, she would dial, 011886-912-345-678. Calling back to US to my number in the US would be dialing 0021-626-202-6048, 0021-then area code, then, number.

Some thoughts from the recommended reading, Cross-Cultural Conflict by Duane Elmer: Chapter 1, part I:

* The better we are at interpreting cutlure, the fewer conflicts we will experience, the more we will be able to build relationships, and the greater will be our ability to communicate God's truth.

* Sins and the culture behind them: What are the greatest sins that exist in the Western context? What are the greatest sins that exist in the Eastern context. compare the two, and think about the reasons behind them.

* Cultural differences could become cultural conflicts. Don't manage conflict from YOUR OWN frame of reference.

* Our western minds seeks to find answers for every question. And in dealing with conflicts, we will find answers by generalization, stereotype, even finding our OWN explanation, usually negative.

* How do you see the Taiwanese people? What are some presumptions you have about the Taiwanese people? Less educated? Less developed? Children of God? Are YOU prejudice against the Taiwanese in any fashion?

4 thoughts to ponder:
1. Will you confuse fact from your own interpretation of the Taiwanese culture?
2. Will you keep your mind open for culturally appropriate explanations for the conflicts that you encounter?
3. Will you seek to learn about the culture as well as reality of the conflicts?
4. When you reach a conclusion about a conflict, will you continue to look for data that could contradicted or modify your conclusion?

I will continue to share with you from the book!
See you 6/26. Take care.

Hi everyone!

This is Aileen from TM staff.  In light of fundraising, I just wanted to share with you what I learned from my New Testament class.  In the book of Acts, the early church started out with Jewish Christians, and later more Gentile Christians came along as missions spread.  One of the main things that connected the Jewish and Gentile Christians together was the latter's financial gifts to support the church consisting of the former.  Isn't that neat?  So, fundraising and giving financial support are opportunities to connect us all together as a body of Christ, even across cultural lines!
